On the occasion of successful thesis defense I wish to present the motivation behind my PhD research and its results. I will try to explain why Einstein's theory of general relativity undermines the fundamental concept of energy, and discuss ways in which we can remedy this troublesome situation.
In the second part of the talk, for something completely different, I would like to share some experiences and observations of a physicist getting a job in the strange foreign world of finance.
