Is the existence of particle dark matter strange or should it be expected? How does it fit to our current understanding of the Standard Model of particle physics? Is the WIMP declared dead prematurely? In this talk I will address these questions and more from a perspective of particle physics. After briefly reviewing current status of our knowledge about particle dark matter, in the last part of the colloquium I will focus on recent advancements in the understanding of its production in the Early Universe.
