The impurity embedded in a medium acquires effective mass and can often be described as a quasiparticle. For strong interactions the problem becomes difficult to study, as one can no longer separate the lengthscales corresponding to few- and many-body phenomena. I will describe simple theoretical approaches which include the long-range nature of the potential at the cost of making other approximations, applicable both to Fermi and Bose gases.
