I will review 23 years of our studies of the condensate number statistics. From the early introduction of the, so called fourth statistical ensemble, to our new quantum Metropolis algorithm. The study of the thermodynamic equilibrium of the isolated Bose gas is a subject of recent measurements by Jan Arlt and his group from Aarhus in Denmark. We are closely collaborating with this group.
